REDD + is a voluntary initiative, implemented in 37 countries worldwide. It is promoted in Costa Rica due to the country experience in the Payment for Environmental Services program. Also, during a COP (Conference of Parties), Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea agreed on the need to reforest and to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
